The entire portfolio is printed in Lithography on deckle edge Velin d'Arches and contains over 40 Lithographs after Picasso (12), Chagall (2), Miro (3), Matisse (2), Braque (1), Calder (2), Derain (4), Debuffet (3), Esteve (3), Prevert (2), Cocteau (1) etc. In addition to the lithographs there are many beautiful facsimile letters by these same artists to Mourlot, also printed in lithography. Many of the sheets bear the grand "Velin d'Arches" watermark. Loose leaves, unbound as published, in paper chemise with a brilliantly colored Lithograph by Debuffet to the front cover, the entire contents housed in a hardcover linen box with title to front cover and spine. Measures approx 13 x 10 inches (330 mm x 254 mm)As stated by S. Dillon Ripley, the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute, "Fernand Mourlot has long been the acknowledged master printer of France in every field, from lithographs to fine books to posters. The unfailing quality of his work commands the respect of museums, collectors, and most important of all, the artists themselves. Every product of his workshop bears the mark of Mourlot’s discipline and craft and can truly be called an ideal collaboration between artist and artisan...” In a Magazine article dated December 1, 1967 it is stated that, "The foremost and most famous lithographic shop in all the world is Paris' Imprimerie Mourlot Frères. Since Jules Mourlot bought it in 1914, the shop's workroom has been the meeting place for artists from all over the world, including such satisfied customers as Chagall, Cocteau, Miró and above all Pablo Picasso. They flock to Mourlot, which today is run by Jules's second son, Fernand, to take advantage of his superlative craftsmanship in the production of their original lithographs, posters and book illustrations, and for his advice on how to execute their drawings on lithographic stones."Though this title is nearly 30 years old it is is Fine, absolutely perfect condition throughout.  Printed in Paris on the Lithographic presses of l'Atelier Bordas. Due to the scarcity of this title there is not a single other copy available to the public. I will consider all reasonable offers. Shipping: All titles are handled with the utmost care. To protect your purchase I first wrap each book in several layers of extra heavy brown kraft paper. Books are then protected with extra cardboard, bubblewrap etc. before being packaged in a heavy duty priority mail cardboard box.
